Exhaustion

Sorry I've been MIA the past month! The only excuse as to why I haven't blogged is that I have been exhausted. Exhaustion will hit you like a ton of bricks when you are growing a human inside your uterus. I guess exhaustion isn't as much as of an excuse than it is a fact of life! So this is what I've been up to these past 9 weeks.

For the 30 days without sugar, I lasted 14 which is longer than I anticipated. I felt great, my skin was clearing up, my belly was less bloated and I wasn't as tired. Then I peed on a stick and saw 2 little lines and it all went downhill from there.

I get really bad "morning" sickness (whoever invented this term is full of BS as it lasts all day) I am sure many women who have been pregnant would agree with me. I tried to be brave and suck it up and deal with the 24 hrs of nausea day after day. But, after a quick visit with my Dr. I had a nice prescription for Diclectin to help slow down the relationship I was building with my toilet.

So, that is what is new in our home. I hope to post a few times/week. I have so much to share, we are still renovating some things in the house and will be tackling a new master suite in the near future, in which I will need a lot of input on. Now, I must go to bed as it is 8pm and already past my bedtime :)

Sweet Tooth

On the eve of this Canadian Thanksgiving, I know I am not the only one sitting back and thinking "I ate way too much, I feel like crap!'

Top of Mazinaw Rock, overlooking Mazniaw Lake (the deepest
lake in Ontario) and Bon Echo Provincial Park.
Aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents spent the weekend at the my parents house and boy did we eat! We haven't seen each other for a few months as they live in Hamilton, ON. We ate lasagna, and chicken, and turkey with all the fixings. Of course you can't forget all the munchies and cheesecake! I had a great time visiting with my family, which also included a trip to Bon Echo Provincial Park. I won't be seeing them again until Christmas, and I ate like I wouldn't eat again until then as well.

I woke up this morning feeling bloated, and tired along with a few new pimples. I thought you were supposed to stop getting pimples when you became an adult? Not this girl! Lately I've felt that I consume way too much sugar, I need to stop baking! So, starting tomorrow I am cutting out all refined sugar from my diet. If I feel like I need something sweet, I will have a little bit of maple syrup (which my family made earlier this year). This means no more sugar in coffee, no more snacking on cookies during break at work, no more chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Lord, help me!

The main reasons in cutting sugar out of my diet is to feel better over all. I think I will have more energy, my skin will be clearer, and I wouldn't mind to drop a few pounds either. I think my husband and son will benefit from this as well. Although, we strictly limit the amount of sugar DS gets. I think the first week will be the hardest, but I plan on sticking to it and posting updates on here. Wish me luck, because I will clearly need it!

Have you ever given something up for a long period of time? Any tips when I want to cave?

Wordless Wednesday

Here he is tuckered out from trying on hockey skates. He starts skating on Saturday:)

And so begins the crazy and expensive saga of becoming a "hockey mom."

What We've Been Up to...

Well it certainly has been a while, close to a year in fact. Winter, Spring and Summer have all come and gone and Autumn has arrived. We are still a little family of 4 - Hubby, H, and Harley our furry baby. We hope to add another baby in the very near future. Here is a little taste of what we have been up to;

In August, Mike and I travelled to Las Vegas for vmWorld. Mike is into vmWare, and it has something to do with virtualization and technology - I don't quite know. I know Mike was in his element here, as it is his passion. We went for 5 days and for 4 of those days I didn't see my husband from 6am to 7pm (sometimes later.) We attended Tweetups, and different parties throughout the time we were there. I was lucky enough to score a pass to the vmWorld party where The Killers were playing. I enjoyed my time in the evenings with Mike, drinking free wine, and meeting some wonderful people. Now, you may think I am crazy when I say this, but I did not like Las Vegas one bit. We aren't the gambling/drinking our faces off type. I think the stay was too long, especially when you are by yourself 80% of the time. I don't think I would visit Vegas again, this trip was almost free however, so I shouldn't complain.

Looking for chipmunks
Fun at the Madoc Fair

Not quite sure of the sheep, he thought they were too loud and was scared of them "baaaaing"

Not the greatest pic of me in front of the waterfalls at Wynn, where we stayed in Vegas.

We are still busy working away on the house. We plan on re-tiling our fireplace in the next few weeks. Good bye old, dark brick. Hello beautiful slate tiles. I will be sure to post pics of the before and after.

It's been a while....

Summer is long gone, which also means so are my holidays.

We have had an amazing Fall filled with friends, family and laughter.

Our little boy keeps growing and growing! It amazes me much has changed in the past year. He can put together words now to form sentences. Nothing huge, but little things like;

"getcha some" - "get you some"
"here y'gou" - "here you go"
"more pweasssssssssse" - "more please"

The hubby and I really need to watch what we are saying as he will repeat everything! He even calls me "Eeesha" if I don't respond to "Mum Mum" within 30 seconds, the boy needs to learn some patience.

I have so much to blog about, now I just need to find the time. I have an exciting new job working with children with Autism, which I am extremely passionate about. I know this will mean working a lot more than I am used to, so I will need to find a good balance between life and work.  We are lucky enough to have H, in a full time day home, so I hope to get as much done as I can while he is playing with his little friends so I can spend more time with him when he is home.

I am also working on rearranging our loft into a home office as I am not partly self employed, I would like to move our bedroom upstairs as well, but that is a project that will last a few months.

I also hope to post some before/after pics of our kitchen renovation and of course pictures of H! Who can resist those cheeks?

The Cupcakes Took Over

I failed....

Started Day 1, it went ok then we were invited to the in laws for dinner. Am I not going to eat? Wouldn't that just be weird? Of, course my in laws always have dessert and last Wednesday there were cupcakes.  I love cake, especially cupcakes and how could I not pass up on one!

I am still following weight watchers and still losing! 10 lbs to go :) I am still running at least 3 times a week, but I need to firm up. I do want to try the Isagenix again, I think I will do it when I am back at work since I have summer off. It is hard being home with a toddler that just snacks all day.  He takes after me, I love to snack!
